Another tragedy, another mass shooting here in the United States.  In the face of all this tragedy we practice serenity through meditation.  2500 years ago Shakyamuni  told us that life was suffering and and it is so even today.  But he also told us that a deep inner happiness is also possible in the face of all this suffering.  The answer lies in the discipline of serenity.  This is not a selfish happiness but rather a happiness that transform the way we think, in which we become conduits for the activity of compassion in the Universe, the Bodhisattva.  It is a happiness that allows us to look at each individual and see the Buddha.  This is all one life.  This is all our true nature.  Division is a mental construct.
Here in the United States, a place that has become home to people who come from all parts of the Earth, all ethnic groups, all religious groups, it is truly a wonderfully diverse society.  It is also mired in delusion, in a way caught in it's own national ego, battling out whether we truly want this to be an exclusive society or embrace inclusiveness.  I hope we all choose inclusiveness.  It is the Buddha Way.
